Downsizing
A lifetime of things, honoured — and gently made to fit the next chapter. We keep what matters most, and nothing is rushed.A lifetime of things, honoured — and gently made to fit the next chapter. We keep what matters most, and nothing is rushed.

What it usually involves
- Starting with the new floor plan, so we know what there is actually room for
- Room by room, at whatever pace suits — there is no clock running
- Photographing pieces that are going, if it helps to keep the memory
- Sorting what goes to family, and arranging it, so nothing is left to chance
Roughly how long
This is usually a series of sessions over a few weeks rather than one big day. Most people find two or three hours at a time is plenty.
What you're left with
A smaller home that holds the things that matter most, and the harder decisions made calmly rather than in the week before settlement.

FAQS
Questions about downsizing
With the new place, not the old one. Once we know what will physically fit, the question stops being "what do I get rid of" and becomes "what do I want to take" — which is a much kinder way round.
That is very common and it stings. It usually says more about the size of their houses than the value of your things. We can look at selling, or at giving pieces to people who will use them, which many people find easier than storage.
Absolutely, if you want them. Some people find it helps, others find it means more opinions than they wanted. It is your call, and you can change your mind between sessions.
