What it usually involves
- Sorting by category with the kids there, if they are old enough to have a say
- An honest look at what has been outgrown, and what is only kept out of habit
- Low, open storage the kids can reach and put back themselves
- Labels with pictures where reading is still a work in progress
Roughly how long
A bedroom is usually three to four hours. A playroom, or two rooms in one go, tends to be a full day.

Questions about kids' rooms
If they are old enough to have opinions, yes — a system they helped build is one they will use. For little ones it is usually easier to sort while they are at school or daycare.
That is very normal, and I never push. We often start with what is broken or outgrown, which is easier to agree on, and leave the sentimental things until later. Nothing goes without their say-so either.
Some mess is just childhood. But a system built around what they can reach and put back holds up far better than one built for adult heights — and a ten-minute reset gets it back.
